Digital cameras are great for taking loads of pictures. The problem comes afterwards: they have such similar names that it's difficult to manage them. This is why Namexif comes in handy. This simple tool enables you to rename digital photos to more telling names, that is, the date and time when the picture was taken.
In order to rename files, Namexif makes use of the EXIF data recorded with each image. The whole process is done in a few steps – the program doesn't even require installation – and is really fast.Namexif includes several naming templates to choose from, as well as the possibility to add a customized text after it. However, it doesn't allow you to rename files with completely new names, that is, without using the EXIF data.
Another point I didn't like was the fact that you can't get a preview of the results before actually renaming files. While having a date instead of a random number is probably a better way to organize photos, I'm not sure if it makes recognition any better.
I don't remember every single date I took pictures, so maybe it would have been better to include a complete custom renaming as one more option.
